Composite doors are secure doors that are made from a mixture of materials, such as solid timber, uPVC, GRP and high-density insulating foam. Checkatrade advise that “composite doors are built to last, with a life expectancy of at least 30-35 years, with proper care and maintenance.” A composite door is therefore an excellent investment, given how long it will last. Because these doors have such a long lifespan, it is likely that you will want to refresh your door with a new colour. Screwfix say “if you’ve ever wondered if you can paint composite doors, the answer is yes. Doing so can upgrade the door’s appearance, helping to refresh your home exterior while also maintaining the door’s condition by protecting it from the elements”. As composite doors are a higher-end premium option, it is crucial that you choose the right company for your composite door project, for a durable and long-lasting coating.

How Much Does it Cost to Respray a Composite Door?

Our door spraying service starts from £200 plus VAT (£240 including VAT). In comparison, Checkatrade’s Composite Doors Buying Guide states that “a basic specification composite door without glass typically costs between £1,100 – £1,400” and you should “expect to pay in the region of £500 – £1,000 for labour”. Having a composite door resprayed can therefore cost just 10% of the amount that it would cost to have the door replaced with a new door and the cost saving would be even more significant if you were to have a spray rather than buy a premium specification composite door (instead of a basic specification).

Is it Worth Painting a Composite Door?

Besides the money that you will save by having your composite door sprayed instead of replaced, there are also many other benefits of a spray:

  1. Solidor (who are widely regarded as the UK’s market-leading composite door brand) state “at Solidor we offer the market’s largest range of colours and finishes and can even offer you the option of a different colour inside and out”.  They currently offer 32 colours however here at We Spray uPVC, we can paint your door in any colour. So far, we have over 400 Dulux, Farrow and Ball, Frenchic, Lick, Little Greene, RAL and Valspar colours matched however if you would like to choose a different, bespoke colour for your composite door, we will be able to match your chosen colour and respray your door in it. We can also spray the inside of your door in one colour and the outside in a second colour.
  2. To respray a composite door involves minimal disruption to our customers. The process (which we have outlined below) takes just 2-3 hours and there is no structural work needed, as the door is sprayed in situ, without removing the existing frame or replacing brickwork or plaster.
  3. Painting a composite door is more eco-friendly than replacing and wasting a door which is still structurally sound.
  4. We spray brand new composite doors from our spray booth for our manufacturer customers as well as fitted composite doors on site for both commercial and residential customers. Each customer is provided with a guarantee that our coating will not crack, peel, fade or discolour for 10 years.

Why wouldn’t you have your composite door spray painted, considering that it will cost just a fraction of the price of replacement, that you can choose absolutely any colour, that the spray will be carried out quickly and conveniently, that you can help the environment as well as having peace of mind that the coating will adhere for many years?

How to Paint a Composite Door Step-by-Step

Spray painting a composite door involves several steps:

  • Firstly, our Spray Painters thoroughly clean and prepare your composite door, removing any dirt, grime and oils.
  • Next, they scotch the surface of the composite door as keying ensures proper adhesion of our coating.
  • Our team members also mask off the surrounding area, such as the door frame (except where the door frame is also being spray painted), surrounding walls and flooring, to ensure that there is no overspray.
  • They then begin painting the composite door, building up the coats and allowing the necessary dry time in between each.
