Two Tone Popular Combinations and Layouts
Key Benefits of a Two Tone Kitchen Spray
When we spray kitchens, we regularly spray them in more than one colour. Two tone kitchen cabinets use two colours to add depth, interest and dimension, often by pairing dark, grounding colours (such as dark blues, greens and greys) on lower cabinets with lighter, airier shades (such as creams, whites and pale greys) on upper cabinets to make spaces feel larger. Other popular options include island contrasts or mixing painted wood with natural wood finishes. The two tone trend breaks up monotony and allows for personalisation, often grounding the space with darker tones below and keeping it bright above, creating balance and visual appeal.
A two tone cabinet spray can instantly elevate your kitchen—an effortless upgrade with a big design impact! Kitchen Restoration agree, stating that “a dual-colour kitchen cabinet layout is one of the easiest ways to bring character and depth to your kitchen, without resorting to expensive design features or a complete kitchen overhaul”.
Below are photos of some of the two tone transformations that our teams have carried out over the years. We do also have thousands of kitchen spray before and after photos on our Instagram page and you can click here to view those.
Two Tone Popular Combinations and Layouts
To avoid colours clashing or appearing mismatched, an important factor is the placement of the two colours as where you decide to apply each colour can make all the difference. Here are some colour combination ideas that we have found to be popular here at We Spray uPVC. Whichever option you choose, you can create a bespoke kitchen that reflects your personal taste.
Dark Base Cabinets with Light Top Cabinets
Most of our customers who opt for a two tone kitchen choose this classic approach, selecting dark colours for their lower cabinets and light colours for their upper cabinets. This option creates the illusion of higher ceilings.
Island Feature
Lots of other customers choose to make their island the star of the kitchen by choosing a bold colour for it while keeping the remaining cabinets neutral or contrasting. This allows the island to become a beautifully balanced focal feature.
Tonal Contrast
Other customers create a tonal contrast by using different shades of the same colour, such as a light green for their top cabinets and a darker green on the bottom.
Mix Materials
We also have customers who choose to pair painted cabinets with areas remaining as natural wood, to introduce a sense of warmth. Kitchen spraying is already much more affordable than having a kitchen replaced however if you are on a tight budget, we can just paint a selection of your kitchen cabinets, such as only the base cabinets, creating a two tone kitchen and saving you money.
Cabinet Frame vs Door Front
This is another option available whereby we can spray your kitchen cabinets but leave the kitchen carcass unpainted, as seen in the third photo below. We can also spray the door fronts and drawers in one colour, with the fixed items such as the side and end panels being sprayed in a second colour, as in the first and second photos below.
Cabinets and Wall Tiles
Another situation where we spray two colours is where our customers have their kitchen units sprayed in one colour and their kitchen wall tiles in a second colour, as shown below.
