One of our most frequently asked questions is whether we can spray high gloss wardrobes and other furniture pieces. The answer to this question is yes, we can! Our teams can spray over smooth or glossy laminate sheen in any colour in a 10% matte, 30% satin or 70% low gloss finish.

Over the years, our teams have sprayed a variety of high gloss bedroom furniture pieces including freestanding wardrobes, built-in wardrobes, chests of drawers, dressing tables and chairs. They have also sprayed gloss bathroom, office and living room furniture, such as shelving units, desks, media walls, sideboards and TV stands.

How are High Gloss Wardrobes Sprayed?

General paint does not adhere well to smooth surfaces however with proper preparation and suitable materials and equipment, glossy furniture can be flawlessly sprayed in another colour. Our teams use only the best, market leading trade coating which is appropriate for being sprayed over gloss surfaces. They ensure that they carry out thorough preparation before starting each spray, scotching each item to remove the gloss layer. This step is vital as it keys the surface, allowing our coating to adhere. We guarantee that once sprayed, our coating will not crack, peel, fade or discolour for at least 10 years.

Why Paint High Gloss Furniture?

High gloss used to be a popular finish for furniture items however as such surfaces need to be cleaned more regularly due to obvious smudge and fingerprint marks, many people are now choosing to make the switch to a more forgiving sheen. Rather than needlessly replacing items which are still fit for purpose and in good form, spraying offers an alternative option which is quick, more environmentally friendly and cost effective.

The major benefit to having gloss furniture sprayed is that customers can choose from any colour! A few coats of paint can make such a difference to freshen up furniture, whether it be a similar colour chosen or a lighter or darker colour. Older items can also be sprayed in a colour and sheen to match new items, regardless of their original colour and sheen.

Can Peeling Gloss Wardrobes be Spray Painted?

Some of our customers have furniture pieces where the glossy vinyl/laminate has started to peel away or has blown. In those situations, we recommend careful removal of the damaged gloss layer from the wardrobes rather than sticking down and spraying over those areas. The reason for this is because the condition of the wrap could continue to worsen over time. Our teams can use heat guns to remove the damaged wrap and they can then spray the underneath MDF, so long as it is in a good enough condition. As standard, the wrap is usually only removed from the damaged items however some of our customers do opt for the wrap to be removed from all wardrobe doors and drawers, even if it is still intact.
