Aluminium and uPVC Window Spraying
Previously Painted Window Frames
If you are having your windows spray painted professionally, the paint should last for 10 years! There are however very many people offering this service nowadays and not all sprayers or spray companies will be able to guarantee that their paint will last for so long. Here at We Spray uPVC, we employ experienced Spray Technicians who use the highest quality paint, materials and equipment and we only spray windows in the correct environmental conditions. We pause external window sprays from around mid October until early March, as colder temperatures can negatively impact the adhesion of the paint. Unfortunately there are other spray painters who spray outdoors all year around, presumably as they have to to make ends meet. We are lucky enough to have enough internal work to fill our teams’ diaries throughout the winter months, because we also spray kitchens, furniture items and items such as internal windows and doors.
Our advice would be that for long lasting results, choose the spray company to spray paint your windows carefully; choose a reputable company who have plenty of positive customer reviews and testimonials, who can offer a guarantee that the paint that they apply will last for 10 years. Choose a company who have been around for some time, as they are more likely to be around in the years to come to honour their guarantee.
Aluminium and uPVC Window Spraying
We guarantee that the paint that we have applied to aluminium and uPVC windows will not crack, peel, fade or discolour for 10 years. We use the market leading paint, which is K2 by Kolorbond. This paint “is based on two pack polyurethane/acrylic technology, making the finished coating highly resistant to abrasion, and other accidental damage. It is very durable, once dry.” Kolorbond have spent years researching, developing and formulating such a durable paint and they have “tested and demonstrated its effectiveness in coating PVCu, GRP, mill, powder coated and anodised aluminium, stainless steel, hard plastics and even glass”. When we began spraying windows many years ago, we tried and tested a variety of paints before we came across K2 and we found this paint to be superior to the other paints that we had tried. K2 is therefore the only paint that we will use to spray windows (as well as all of the other items that we spray) as we can be confident that when our Spray Technicians skillfully apply it, a long lifespan can be guaranteed.
Wooden Window Spraying
Whilst we do still use the same durable paint when spraying wooden windows, unfortunately we cannot provide a guarantee as to how long the paint will last. That is because wood is a natural material that can deteriorate and as the wood deteriorates, that can cause our paint to come away. We do still regularly spray paint wooden windows as although wooden windows may need to be touched up or resprayed earlier than aluminium or uPVC would need to be, it is still a lot cheaper to have wooden windows spray painted and spray painted again at a later date if necessary, than it is to have all of those wooden windows replaced.
Spraying Previously Painted Window Frames
The quality and condition of the surface being spray painted is a major factor that affects how long the paint will last. Where windows have been previously painted, we cannot usually provide a guarantee as we would on unpainted uPVC and aluminium windows. The reason for this is because we have no idea how reliable the original paint is and our paint is going to be applied on top of that paint. We are often approached by customers who would like us to respray windows where the paint is already coming away or has faded, which suggests that perhaps the paint they have used is inferior and/or their sprayer inexperienced. We can provide a quote to respray those items but we just cannot guarantee that our paint would last as long as it would were it to have been applied to the original surface. It is always best to have the spray carried out correctly in the first instance.
Maintaining Sprayed Windows
To extend the life of the paint that has been applied, we recommend regularly cleaning the surface of the windows with mild soap and water.
