A kitchen island spray is a popular way to transform your kitchen’s look using specialised, durable paint which offers a smooth, brush-stroke-free finish for cabinets and islands. Spray painting a kitchen island is usually a fraction of the cost of replacement, despite involving thorough prep using high-quality paint for long-lasting results.

Why Spray Your Kitchen Island?

There are so many benefits of having a kitchen island professionally spray painted, including:

  1. Cost-effectiveness: A spray is a significant upgrade for much less than the cost of a new island.
  2. Durable finish: We use high-quality paint which offers excellent adhesion, lasting years. We guarantee the adhesion of our paint for 10 years and the paint will not fade or discolour during that period.
  3. Extensive colour choices: A spray can update an island with contemporary colours and finishes for a fresh and more modern look. We have over 400 colours matched already and our paint supplier offer an expert colour matching service for any of our customers who would like to choose a unique colour for their island spray.
  4. Minimal disruption: Islands are sprayed quickly (with the vast majority being transformed in just a day), with proper masking to protect your home. Very occasionally an island may take two days to complete, such as if there are blown kitchen doors which need to be peeled, primed and sanded before being sprayed.

How Much Does it Cost to Have a Kitchen Island Resprayed?

Our kitchen island spraying service starts from just £600 plus VAT. MyBuilder state that the average cost of a mid-level fitted island is £3,000-£7,000 with high-end bespoke islands costing over £10,000. Checkatrade say “installing a larger kitchen island complete with electrics, plumbing, and sink will cost in the region of £3650”. An island spray is therefore significantly more affordable than an island replacement and a spray makes much more sense if your island is still in good condition and already has electrical plumbing and additions installed.

Kitchen Island Spraying – What to Expect

  1. Our arrival: Islands are always sprayed on site. If you are local to our base in Stockport, one of our teams will arrive between 8.30am and 9am. If you are based further away, we will let you know at the time of booking the spray an approximate time that our team will arrive.
  2. Preparation is key: Everything not being painted (floors, walls, worktops etc) is meticulously masked and surfaces which are to be sprayed are cleaned and scotched. Cabinets and drawer fronts and any handles are removed and labelled.
  3. The spray: Our professional Spray Technicians will bring all necessary equipment and materials with them. They use high volume, low pressure spray guns for controlled application. They will apply a dust coat and around three further coats until they achieve full coverage of your chosen colour.
  4. After the spray: Our team will reattach the cabinets, drawers and handles, remove the masking and take away any rubbish. They will walk you around the spray painted island so that you can check that you are happy with all aspects of the spray.

We have over 1,000 positive reviews and 0 negative reviews and so if you would like to have your island sprayed, we are the company for you!

Can I Paint my Kitchen Island Myself?

We would recommend against painting your kitchen island yourself if you would like to achieve a durable and professional-looking finish. If you do however decide to paint your kitchen yourself, here are some tips:

  1. Use the right tools: An airless paint sprayer and a fine-finish tip are recommended for a smooth finish. Without professional-grade spray equipment, it is difficult to achieve the smooth, even finish of a professional job. Common DIY issues include brush marks, streaks and uneven coverage.
  2. Paint choice: Solvent-based paints are the most durable. We use K2 by Kolorbond on all of our spray projects however Kolorbond do only supply to the trade and so whichever paint you choose to use, we would recommend that you ensure that it is of high quality before purchasing and applying it.
  3. Prep and masking: Preparation is key and it is the preparation that takes our teams around 70% of the spray duration. Extensive masking is crucial to prevent overspray. Skipping essential steps like thorough cleaning, degreasing and scotching will result in poor paint adhesion and a finish that will not last. Our teams use an accelerator to speed up the cure time of the paint sprayed and regardless of whether you use an accelerator or not, you will need to wait for multiple coats of paint to dry completely.
  4. Safety: paints are hazardous and so to apply them, you will require proper ventilation and protective gear to avoid health risks.

Our experienced Sprayers apply the market leading paint using the best equipment and so while they can spray an island in as little as a day and guarantee the longevity of the paint for 10 years, painting the island yourself may be more time consuming and the finish may not be as smooth or last as long.

Sometimes when we spray paint a kitchen island, we just spray the island whereas on other occasions, we spray the island at the same time as the rest of the kitchen (either in the same colour or in a contrasting colour).
