When We Spray uPVC was established, uPVC spraying was our main service, hence the company name! We soon began spray painting indoor items too, such as kitchens and furniture. Now, we continue to spray uPVC windows (as well as aluminium and wooden windows) between late February and early October, pausing outdoor spraying during the colder, wetter winter months when our teams just spray indoors.

Up until recently, the majority of our customers chose the colour RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey for external window spraying. We have been window frame spraying outside again for around 1.5 months so far in 2025, our diary is booked up until mid June and it is noticeable from these bookings that more customers are now choosing a shade of black for us to spray window frames in, as opposed to Anthracite Grey which had been our most popular uPVC window spraying colour for years.

We have wondered whether this shift in colour choice is universal and Double Glazing Blogger seem to have noticed this shift also. They say that “Anthracite Grey has been one of the most successful colours in our industry over the past decade…But have we peaked? The more I look back at our own order intake this year, as well as the general commentary for the sector, I think we might have”. Alexander Windows agree, stating “Goodbye Grey: Anthracite Is Out” and they predict that “black windows are set to be hugely popular in 2025”. Alufolds affirm that “black is quickly becoming the new grey”.

Should You Choose Black to Spray uPVC Windows?

We can understand why black has become so popular for window spraying this year. Black is such a versatile colour that can complement both traditional and modern properties, including buildings made from a range of materials such as brick, stone as well as rendered properties. Black is also an excellent colour to maintain, with marks being less noticeable than they would be on windows sprayed in lighter colours.

Below are photos of the most popular black colours that we spray here at We Spray uPVC, in order of popularity:

uPVC Spraying Cost

Whether you wish to go with a black or grey colour for uPVC spraying, our cost would be the same. uPVC spraying cost may be slightly higher if, for example, your windows are currently a dark colour, such as Rosewood and you wish to go with a much lighter colour, such as white. Such a spray would require the application of more coats and more time to achieve full coverage. As black and grey colours have similar levels of pigmentation, choosing between these colours will not have an impact on the price of the spray.
