Frequently Asked Questions relating to Paint
Paint Sprayed
Whether our spray painting teams are spraying indoor items such as kitchens and furniture or outdoor items such as windows and doors, the paint that they spray is K2. This paint is based on two pack polyurethane/acrylic technology and we have chosen to use this paint because:
- It can be sprayed in almost any colour, as our supplier offer a full colour matching service which means that we can spray the colour of your choice. You can find out more about colour matching by clicking here. The colours that we most often spray are matches to Farrow and Ball’s Signature Collection. Our teams do not spray Farrow and Ball’s paint but K2 paint that has been matched to Farrow and Ball’s colours and this applies to whichever colour brand a customer chooses. We do regularly spray RAL Classic colours too and our past customers have had sprays carried out in colour matches to many brands including Benjamin Moore, Dulux, Frenchic, Lick, Little Greene and Valspar.
- Once dry, K2 paint is very long-lasting and it is highly resistant to abrasion and other accidental damage.
- It can be applied to many substrates and as mentioned above, we use the same paint to coat everything that we spray.
- Our customers’ sprays can be completed quicker than if we were to use an alternative paint, as K2 can mostly be applied without the need for primer beforehand. This benefits our customers as it means that we can complete most sprays in as little as one or two days and this also makes our service more affordable, due to the substantial time saved.
- Technispray, who manufacture K2, are renowned in this industry and they have built a strong brand name. They have years of experience and invest a lot of time in research and development.
- All of our Spray Technicians, who come from a variety of spraying backgrounds including fine glass spraying and automotive refinishing, agree that K2 is the best paint on the market. It is of high quality and offers an excellent finish and colour stability.

Other Substances Used
As well as the paint, our teams use the below substances where applicable:
- Accelerator – our spray teams use this additive to speed up the cure time of the paint sprayed.
- Degreaser/panel wipe – we ask our customers to clean the items which are to be spray painted prior to our team arriving however our teams do also use this product to remove contaminants, such as grease, prior to starting the spray painting.
- Hardener – this is another additive that enhances the drying time of the paint applied. It also ensures excellent adhesion and durability, enabling us to offer a 10 year guarantee on 99% of the sprays that we carry out.
- Thinners – our Spray Technicians use standard thinners to clean their spray guns following each spray. They do also use thinners occasionally for other purposes, such as where they need to remove a stubborn substance from an item which is to be coated.
- Primer – in most applications, the paint that we use does not require a primer. Our teams do sometimes need to apply a primer first, usually when they are spraying raw MDF or where a customer wishes to reduce the visibility of the grain in grained items. Our teams use primer which is quick to dry and easy to sand which means that even if your spray does require primer, we should still be in and out in little time.
- Silicone – when spraying items such as windows and door frames, our teams usually remove any existing silicone and apply new silicone n our customer’s chosen colour, to seal the perimeter. The silicone that we apply is low odour, UV resistant and both moisture and aging resistant.

Frequently Asked Questions relating to Paint
- How should you clean items before and after they are painted? Please use mild, soapy water to clean surfaces prior to our team’s arrival and also after the paint has been applied, rather than solvent based products.
- When does a customer need to choose their paint colour(s) by? We usually order paint 3 weeks prior to each spray and so request that customers confirm their chosen colour at least 3 weeks before their spray date(s), where possible.
- Can the paint be applied to damaged areas? Our Spray Technicians can cover the surface that they are provided with in your chosen colour however as the paint that we use is thin (so that it looks as though items have been manufactured in the colour sprayed rather than heavily painted in it), it will not hide imperfections.
- Can the paint be applied to untreated MDF or raw wood? It can be applied however in such circumstances, primer needs to be applied first of all and so please make us aware prior to your spray if any of the areas to be sprayed are raw.
- Can the paint be applied to silicone? Paint applied to silicone would soon come away and so that is why we usually remove existing silicone and apply new silicone, rather than spraying over the existing silicone.
- Does the paint fill in a wood grain? No, it does not. If there is a grain in the surface to be spray painted, the grain will still be there once it has been sprayed. The same applies to wood knots, if any are present. You can read more about the spraying of grained surfaces by clicking here.
- Can the paint be applied to previously painted surfaces? It can be however if there are any imperfections, such as brush strokes or drips from the existing paint, our paint will only cover those and so they will still be there following the spray.
- How long does it take the paint to cure? As mentioned above, our teams use accelerator and hardener which speeds up the curing time, meaning that it takes just 24 hours for the paint to fully cure.
- What finishes can the paint be sprayed in? We spray in 10% matte, 30% satin and 70% low gloss finishes. 30% satin is our standard finish that we complete 99% of sprays in.
- Do the paint and other substances used have an odour? Yes, they can produce a strong odour when applied and so if we are spraying indoors, our teams ventilate the area, bring along the appropriate extraction equipment and seal off the room where the spray is taking place, so that customers cannot enter until any harmful particles have been extracted. As with the application of any paint, the odour can persist for a short period of time.
